Best Clean Energy Stocks To Watch Right Now

The exportation of liquefied natural gas, or LNG, has been a hotly debated topic in the United States recently. Companies from all types of backgrounds have been staking their claims on either side of the argument. One thing is for certain, and that is that in 2015 Cheniere Energy (NYSEMKT: LNG  ) will begin exporting liquefied natural gas from its Department of Energy-approved Sabine Pass facility.

Aside from the potential growth in exports from North America, Australia looks to be the largest contributor to the growth of natural gas finding its way into the international trade market. Transportation of natural gas chilled to temperatures as low as -260 degrees Fahrenheit certainly requires a high degree of skilled execution. That's where Teekay LNG Partners (NYSE: TGP  ) enters the picture. With a fleet much younger than the industry average and a distribution over 6%, it could be a great second-degree play on the coming trend.

If exports are allowed unchecked, will nat-gas prices negatively affect CLNE?
The movement toward alternative energy is gaining momentum. One potential opportunity in this field is Clean Energy Fuels, which focuses its natural gas efforts primarily on trucking and fleets. It's poised to make a big impact on an essential industry. Learn everything you need to know about Clean Energy Fuels in The Motley Fool's premium research report on the company. Advisors' Opinion:

Support.com (SPRT) is a provider of online care for the digital home and small business. This stock closed up 2.7% to $5.89 in Tuesday's trading session.

    Tuesday's Range: $5.67-$5.92

    52-Week Range: $3.67-$6.28

    Thursday's Volume: 304,000

    Three-Month Average Volume: 377,189

From a technical perspective, SPRT spiked higher here right above its 50-day moving average of $5.51 with decent upside volume. This move also pushed shares of SPRT into breakout territory, since the stock took out some near-term overhead resistance at $5.80. Shares of SPRT have been uptrending for the last month, with the stock moving higher from its low of $5.01 to its intraday high of $5.92. During that uptrend, shares of SPRT have been consistently making higher lows and higher highs, which is bullish technical price action.

Traders should now look for long-biased trades in SPRT as long as it's trending above its 50-day at $5.51 or above more near-term support at $5.43 and then once it sustains a move or close above Tuesday's high of $5.92 to its 52-week high at $6.28 with volume that hits near or above 377,189 shares. If that breakout triggers soon, then SPRT will set up to enter new 52-week-high territory above $6.28, which is bullish technical price action. Some possible upside targets off that move are $7 to $8.

Advisors' Opinion:

A larger concern is this “lost in translation” issue. This REIT is acquiring 2 biomedical office buildings that are 96% occupied, with a 15-year term with Vertex Pharmaceuticals Inc. (NASDAQ: VRTX). Vertex is now worth almost $20 billion and is expected to be profitable in 2015. Senior Housing will almost certainly get an earnings boost from this lease, but there is one small problem here – most investors believe that they are investing ina company that makes its bread and butter from senior living facilities. Owning biotech leases of healthy large companies is not a bad business; it just changes the focus of the company because this will add about 20% or so in size.

  • [By Garrett Cook]

Vertex Pharmaceuticals (NASDAQ: VRTX) shares shot up 41.12 percent to $94.00 after the company reported that its two phase 3 studies of Lumacaftor in combination with ivacaftor met the primary endpoint.

Advisors' Opinion:
  • [By Ben Levisohn]

For the past several years, Berkshire has contrasted its own cost-free float provided by profitable underwriting against the industry (unimpressive) tendency to lose money on underwriting while generating net returns from investment income. So far, so good. Less edifying, though, is the repeated contrast of Berkshire track record of profitability to State Farm…even though, as a mutual company, State Farm profitability goals are inherently different from for-profit insurers like Berkshire. It true that through year-end 2013, Berkshire underwriters have ow operated at an underwriting profit for eleven consecutive years, but so have ACE (ACE), American Financial (AFG), AmTrust Financial (AFSI), Arch Capital (ACGL), Chubb (CB), HCC (HCC), Progressive (PGR), RLI (RLI), and W.R. Berkley (WRB), any or all of whom provide a more meaningful comparison than contrasting Berkshire results to a company that not out to produce a profit in the first place.
